Description
This impressive lamp is a low relief carving on a dried Chinese Bottle gourd. The entire surface of the gourd shell is covered with furrows following strange erratic patterns in parallel, forming waves and loops respecting the natural curves of the shell. Each furrow is punctuated with holes of varying sizes thus creating complex designs.
In daylight the carving is seen at its best but once lit the lamp creates a spectacular light show as the light rays are projected through the multitude of holes. The light and shadow matrix is interesting and creates instantly an atmosphere full of magic and mystery.
This lamp is a one of kind, designed by the artist and created by hand in his workshop in the South of France. The inside of the gourd shell is sterilised and the exterior is protected with several coats of a transparent wax. The shell is mounted on a black wooden round base fitted with a 1.8m power cord (220v Europe*) and switch and a E14 4W LED filament bulb (25000 hours, no heat). The bulb is 18cm long which allows the entire shell to be lit up.
